Sometimes the best way to be seen is to disappear

At the 2014 Grammy Awards, something extraordinary happened.

As the audience held their breath, Daft Punk, the elusive electronic music duo, stood on stage to accept the Album of the Year award for Random Access Memories.

Clad in their signature robotic helmets, they silently accepted their award, offering no speeches, only nods and waves.

It was a weird moment. The world's most prestigious music award ceremony was honouring two faceless robots.

But how did we get here?

Let's rewind to 1997. Two French musicians, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, released their debut album, Homework.

Their music was revolutionary, a seamless blend of house, techno, and funk that captivated listeners worldwide.

But unlike other rising stars, they chose to conceal their identities – hence the helmets.

The helmets allowed Daft Punk to achieve something rare in the music industry: complete anonymity.

While their peers navigated the treacherous waters of fame, Bangalter and Homem-Christo lived their lives in relative obscurity. Their faces, hidden from public view, became less important than their music.

This anonymity wasn't just a shield – it was also a statement. It declared that it was their work, not their personalities, that was the true star.

It was a risk, but it was a risk that paid off. The mystery surrounding Daft Punk only fuelled public fascination.

Each public appearance was an event shrouded in intrigue. Who were they? What did they look like? The helmets made them timeless, ever-relevant, and perpetually enigmatic.

And when the Grammys recognised their brilliance, it wasn't just a win for Daft Punk but a validation of their entire faceless approach.

So why am I sharing this story with you?

Well, believe it or not, it's not because I want to get you to go out and buy Daft Punk's entire back catalogue.

It's because there's a valuable lesson in the Daft Punk story which will help you if you're looking to grow your business online.

You see, one of the things I find whenever I start working with a new solo business owner is that they is that they don’t have a YouTube channel.

And if you don’t have a YouTube channel, you are missing out - BIG TIME.

Why? Because YouTube is the world’s second biggest search engine.

Yes – search engine. You see, unlike Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, YouTube isn’t somewhere that people only go to when they’re bored.

YouTube is a place where people go to learn things and find out information. It’s where they go to research things before they’re ready to speak to a potential supplier.

Which means if your business doesn’t have a presence on YouTube, you’re missing out on potential leads and new clients.

So why aren’t more small business owners posting content on YouTube?

Well, in most cases, it’s because they're camera-shy.

And I get that. The thought of being on camera can be daunting. You worry about how you look, how you sound, whether you'll stumble over your words.

But thanks to recent advances in AI, you don't have to put yourself through that ordeal.

You see, it's now possible to create amazing professional videos using AI tools – without having to show your face at all.

Just like Daft Punk proved that you can achieve massive success whilst remaining anonymous, you can now build your business with compelling video content whilst staying completely behind the scenes.

Tools like InVideo allow you to create professional-looking videos automatically using high-quality stock footage and AI-generated scripts.

You don't even have to supply the script (unless you want to). You can just tell the software what you want the video to be about, how long you want it to be, and it will write the script for you!

InVideo will also create the voiceover for you – narrating the script in one of its super-realistic AI voices.

And here's the really clever bit. You can even teach InVideo to narrate videos in your own voice (click here if you want to see an example of this on my own channel).

Now you're probably thinking all this is really expensive. But it's not. In fact, you can start using InVideo for free.

And you can use the free plan for as long as you like. Your videos will come with a watermark, but you can upgrade to a paid plan when you're ready to publish professionally.

It really is the quickest and simplest way to start producing video content for your business – even if you're shy.

Just like Daft Punk's helmets allowed them to focus purely on their music without the distractions of fame, AI video tools let you focus on sharing your expertise without the anxiety of being on camera.

Because sometimes the best way to be seen is indeed to disappear behind the technology and let your ideas take centre stage.

Here's to your faceless fame!

All the best,
David.

PS – As well as being great for creating full-length videos for platforms like YouTube, InVideo can also be used to create short-form videos for social media platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn.

You can try it out for free for as long as you like.
